The zero waste challenge

Fifty families in Bristol have been set the challenge to see if they can go waste-free for a year and not use their black bins.

The challenge was set by Bristol Waste and requires the families to record the weight of their waste and recycling online. They have also been given a composter or wormery for their food waste.

Families have said that its not easy but definitely works out cheaper. They have made changes such as giving their children chalk boards to draw with, making their own baby food and using reusable sanitary products.

The scheme is due to end next March.
