Sky introduces a new VR app

Sky has introduced a new VR app, which will allow the viewer to enjoy the experience of watching live sport from the comfort of their home. The free app will also enable the user to watch a range of other 360-videos including documentaries and music as well as sport.

The app provides immersive 360 Virtual Reality on a smartphone using either a headset or in 2D without a headset.

Along side the app, Sky is also launching a new VR experience featuring David Beckham, who takes the viewer on a visit of the world’s best sporting events. However for users who aren’t sports fans there are other options such as a performance of Giselle by the English National Ballet or 360 clips of Disney’s The Jungle Book.

While this version of the app gives a 360-degree video experience, Sky is already planning updates to include more immersive VR features. Gary Davey, Managing Director of Content at Sky said ‘Interest in VR content is building, generating more excitement every day. Now comes the creative challenge of deploying this immersive experience with engaging story-telling. I am a big believer.’

The app is available to download from the Google play store and Apple’s App store.
