Christmas Waste

Christmas waste

It was expected that the people of Britain would bin the equivalent of 108 million rolls of wrapping paper, 54 million plates of food and use over 189 million batteries over Christmas. They also found that we would get through 40 million rolls of sticky tape and bin almost 100 million black bags full of packaging.

Many people who were questioned say they threw paper packaging and card out rather than recycled. With 6 in 10 saying they don’t feel guilty for what they throw away. 43 per cent believe its impossible to avoid waste over Christmas.

However some families do recycle by reusing Christmas cards as gift tags next year, buying rechargeable batteries and avoid wrapping presents at all.
